Remodeling the kitchen comes with a lot of options and decisions to be made. The layout is probably the biggest decision you’ll make, because each layout offers a unique set of options. The three layouts we’re going to describe today are Galley, L-shaped, and U-shaped. We’ll offer a few pros and cons for each type to help you decide which one best fits your individual needs.
The galley kitchen is a kitchen in which everything is lined up against two walls with a passageway between it. They’re very efficient, and everything is within easy reach. This is an excellent choice for kitchens that have multiple entry and exit points or homeowners who prefer a more minimalistic approach. There’s little room to include a kitchen island unless it’s mobile.
The L-shaped kitchen is, as the name implies, shaped like the letter L. They’re more convenient for people with mobility issues, as everything is in the same general area. They also leave quite a lot of space open to include a kitchen island if needed. The L-shaped kitchen provides more storage opportunities than the basic galley kitchen.
The U-shaped kitchen, again, is in the shape of the letter U. This kitchen has a minimum of three areas with cabinets and countertops. It may also accommodate a kitchen island if the kitchen has a good amount of square footage. The U-shaped kitchen provides the most storage, countertop space, and square footage of all three layouts.
